Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Sunday that the government is finalizing a comprehensive plan to reduce electricity tariffs. The upcoming relief package is being designed under a well-structured strategy and will be revealed soon.

During a review session focused on the Power Division, the prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy, particularly solar power. He emphasized that there has been no shift in the administration’s stance or priorities regarding solar energy initiatives.

“Encouraging renewable energy remains a top government priority,” Shehbaz stated in the meeting. “There is no change in our policies regarding solar energy, and we will ensure the public is accurately informed about the solarisation policy.”

To eliminate misconceptions surrounding the solarisation policy, the prime minister instructed officials to present clear facts and data to the public.

Additionally, he urged authorities to expedite the privatization of power distribution companies (DISCOs) and swiftly resolve any legal or operational challenges facing electricity generation firms.

Shehbaz assured that once reforms in the energy sector are implemented, the public will benefit from further reductions in electricity costs. He stressed the importance of enhanced coordination among the Power Division, Water Resources Division, and Petroleum Division to formulate a well-integrated energy policy.
