Facebook Launches Beta for Content Monetization: A Game Changer for Creators

Facebook has introduced the Facebook Content Monetization beta, an innovative program designed to simplify and broaden monetization options for content creators across its platform. This initiative integrates three of Facebook’s existing monetization avenues—In-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and the Performance Bonus—into a unified system.

By doing so, Facebook aims to empower creators to generate revenue from a wider variety of content formats, including Reels, long-form videos, photos, and even text posts, thus opening up more pathways for creators to profit from their work.

Billions Earned by Creators on Facebook

Since launching its monetization initiative in 2017, Facebook has enabled over four million creators to earn income through the platform. Initially, creators could only monetize longer videos, but the program has since expanded to embrace newer formats, including Reels and regular posts.

This expansion has proven successful, with significant growth in payouts over time. In the past year alone, Facebook has distributed more than $2 billion to creators for eligible content, such as videos, Reels, and posts. Notably, payments for short videos and Reels have surged by over 80%, highlighting the platform’s dedication to rewarding creators for their engaging content.

A Streamlined Monetization Experience

One of the main objectives of the Facebook Content Monetization beta is to simplify the monetization process for creators. Previously, creators had to apply separately for eligibility in different programs to earn from various content types, often leading to confusion and missed opportunities.

Currently, only about one-third of monetizing creators on Facebook earn from multiple funded programs. Recognizing this issue, Facebook has consolidated its monetization options into a single platform. Creators will only need to register for one program to monetize multiple formats, gaining access to a unified set of insights and analytics for easier performance and earnings tracking.

Payout Model Remains Unchanged

While the program’s structure is evolving, the payout model will remain intact. The new Content Monetization program will continue to utilize a performance-based model, similar to that of the existing Ads on Reels, In-stream Ads, and Performance Bonus programs. Creators’ earnings will still depend on the performance of their eligible content in terms of views, engagement, and other metrics.

Those who have found success with Ads on Reels or In-stream Ads can expect a similar experience under this new framework. Additionally, creators who haven’t yet explored monetizing longer videos or photos will now have the opportunity to do so.

Expanded Eligibility and Invitations Rolling Out

Facebook has begun sending out invitations for the Facebook Content Monetization beta, targeting one million creators currently monetizing content on the platform. These creators can join the beta program via the monetization tab on their Professional dashboard on mobile or through the Meta Business Suite on desktop.

More invitations will be distributed in the coming months, expanding access to additional creators eager to take advantage of the new monetization opportunities. While open enrollment for the general public will not start until 2025, interested creators can express their desire to join the beta early by visiting Facebook for Creators and signing up for notifications.
