Deadpool Star Set to Buy Team in ‘The Hundred’

Ryan Reynolds, the star of Deadpool, and Rob McElhenney, known for their ownership of Wrexham AFC, are reportedly in talks with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about investing in cricket. They are considering acquiring a stake in the Hundred franchise, Welsh Fire.

The ECB plans to sell 49% of the eight Hundred teams to private investors, focusing on US sports franchise owners and Indian Premier League stakeholders.

Sources indicate that Reynolds and McElhenney have met with ECB officials and were invited to attend matches during this summer’s competition, starting with the Oval Invincibles versus Birmingham Phoenix match on Tuesday. The Welsh Fire is considered one of the more affordable teams, with half the franchise estimated at £20 million.

Reynolds and McElhenney have previously revitalized Wrexham AFC, leading to consecutive promotions and global popularity, partly due to their documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham.”
