Internet services on mobile data remain disrupted in various cities across Pakistan, causing widespread frustration among users. Despite efforts to restore services, many areas continue to experience significant issues, particularly affecting social media platforms and online businesses.
Mobile data users report slow browsing speeds and limited connectivity, with WhatsApp users struggling to download and send documents, voice notes, and media files. This ongoing issue has been particularly challenging for individuals and businesses that rely on the internet for their operations. Many business owners have voiced their concerns over the prolonged disruption, which has been ongoing for nearly two months.

About three weeks ago, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced that the internet slowdown would likely be resolved by the end of October. PTA Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rahman mentioned that decisions concerning the closure of specific services, such as X, are made by the federal government. Back in August, the PTA attributed the internet slowdown to faults in two of the country’s seven submarine cables. They indicated that while the re-routing of the AAE-1 cable is expected to be completed soon, potentially improving services, the repair of the SMW4 cable will take additional weeks.
In light of the ongoing disruptions, users and businesses are hopeful that internet services across Pakistan will improve by the end of this month, as promised by the PTA. Those relying on mobile data for business operations are particularly eager for a permanent resolution to these internet disruptions.
