Apple CEO Visits China for Second Time This Year as Sales Slump

Apple CEO Tim Cook visited China for the second time this year, as announced on social media on Tuesday. This visit underscores the US technology giant’s efforts to bolster its slumping sales in a crucial overseas market.

Despite Apple’s continued popularity among Chinese consumers, the company has been losing market share to domestic competitors in recent years. This decline comes amid China’s slowing economic growth and weak consumer spending.

On Tuesday, Cook shared on his official Weibo account that he met with Chinese university students who are using Apple products to enhance sustainable farming practices. In another video posted on Monday, Cook was seen walking through a historic area of Beijing with fashion photographer Chen Man, expressing his pleasure at being back in the city.

Apple reported a $21.4 billion profit for the three months ending in June, with $85.8 billion in revenue—a 5% increase from the previous year. However, the company’s sales in China have faced significant pressure from homegrown brands like Huawei. According to market analysis firm Canalys, Apple was the sixth-largest smartphone vendor in China during the second quarter, dropping from the third-largest in the same period last year.

Cook’s previous visit to China was in March, when he opened a new Apple store in Shanghai and participated in a forum in Beijing alongside other top executives.
