Israel Bombs Beirut Hospital, Apartments in Broad Daylight

Beirut/Gaza: In a devastating escalation of its offensive, Israel bombarded the Lebanese capital, Beirut, multiple times over the past 24 hours. The assaults included a late-night strike that killed at least 18 people near a key hospital.

On Tuesday, four strikes targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs, sending plumes of smoke and dust into the air. The bombardment forced Hezbollah to abruptly end a press conference after the Israeli army issued an evacuation order for the area. An Israeli strike hit a location just a few hundred meters from the press conference venue shortly after reporters left, according to an AFP video journalist. Additionally, an 11-storey apartment complex in the Ghobeiri area was leveled in another attack.

In southern Lebanon, three paramedics were injured during a rescue mission coordinated with UN peacekeepers in Nabatiyeh, following a strike in the region.

The previous day’s heavy shelling claimed the lives of 63 people and injured 234, including four children who were among the 18 killed in the strike on Rafic Hariri Hospital, Lebanon’s largest public health facility located in the Jnah area, near the city center. No evacuation warning was issued for the densely populated neighborhood, which has seen an influx of displaced individuals from southern areas. The hospital sustained damage, with shattered windows and destroyed solar panels, while four nearby buildings were flattened, prompting ongoing rescue operations.

Horrifying Scenes in North Gaza

Meanwhile, northern Gaza is witnessing the forced displacement of its population, described as the “Jabalia death march” on social media. Starving Palestinians, suffering from a lack of food, water, and basic survival items for the past 18 days, are being forcibly relocated.

Al Jazeera reported scenes of people carrying white flags through checkpoints while under heavy bombardment. The checkpoints are equipped with high-tech surveillance cameras and metal detectors, and many women and children have reportedly been arrested, according to an Al Jazeera reporter.

Gaza’s civil defense agency reported four Palestinian deaths from strikes on Monday, with numerous homes destroyed in the Jabalia area, a recent focal point of conflict. The UN has warned of the risk of famine in Gaza, highlighting that only 396 aid trucks have entered the territory this month compared to 3,003 in September. A displaced resident described Jabalia as “being wiped out.”
